Fruit is the Proof

Kris Rawson was born in Alabama in an undisclosed year but has lived in the Suncoast region of Florida for the better part of 25 years. Having spent much of her early adult life in professional roles, which carried her to points beyond, settling in Florida was a much-needed grounding.

Kris has one adult child who she loves dearly and prays favor over her endlessly. Kris received her Master’s Degree in Counseling from the University of Georgia but considers Auburn University her alma mater, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree. She is an avid college football fan but downright rabid when it comes to Auburn football.

Kris is a devoted and grateful student of God’s Word and has taken this passion into leadership roles, both personally and professionally. She leads small groups, teaches Bible studies, and assists with women’s ministry efforts in her church home.

The subject verse of this study both intrigues and scares us, right?

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 NIV

This verse has always intrigued me. There is a world of challenges that humans face with this verse. I mean, really…are we full of love, joy, and peace? Are we kind, good, and faithful? Are we truly gentle and self-controlled? The truth is a big fat “No.” While we would all love to be all of these things all the time, or just be some of these things some of the time, are we truly capable of it? Sadly, no, that’s the cold, hard truth. Sadly, our human-ness wins out too much.

But here’s the thing. Somehow, we tend to miss that one very important detail. It’s just not any fruit. It is the fruit of the Spirit. The truth of the matter is that the fruit of the flesh is what comes most naturally for all of us. In our natural state, we are selfish and indulgent, anxious, unfaithful, spiteful, and jealous. Our flesh wars against the Spirit, just as drought, pests, weeds, and heat war against healthy plants in nature.

Come along for a deep dive into the Spirit and his fruit. Let’s figure out together what makes Him and it so special.
